IronShield™ Coating System

(While others simply paint). Hitch-Rack Pro, durability starts at the surface. Our IronShield™ Coating System combines two advanced coating processes into one complete system. Engineered to protect your rack from corrosion, wear, and the demands of real-world use.

E-Coat Base Layer

E-coating, also known as electrocoating or electrodeposition, is a wet painting process that delivers excellent corrosion protection and uniform coverage on metal parts. The parts are mounted on a rack, cleaned, and pretreated, then fully dipped into a large tank containing a water-based bath with suspended paint particles. A direct electrical current is applied while submerged—the grounded part attracts the charged paint particles, which migrate and deposit evenly across all surfaces, including recessed areas, building up a thin, self-limiting film.

Powder Coat Finish

After rinsing off excess paint, the parts typically move to powder coating for a topcoat. Powder is electrostatically sprayed onto the parts, where it adheres due to the opposite electrical charge. The coated parts are then baked in an oven at around 350°F or higher to cure both layers, cross-linking the polymers and creating a durable, smooth, protective finish. This combination provides superior corrosion resistance and appearance.
